The Fisher Care Kindness Fund

Introduction

At Fisher Care, we believe kindness lives here, and we’d like it to travel a little further into the communities we’re proud to call home.

That’s the thinking behind the Fisher Care Kindness Fund. Every quarter, we give £250 to a local group, project, or cause making life a little brighter for the people around them, near one of our four homes in Bridlington, Leeds, Brighouse, or Whitby.

It works both ways

It’s a small gesture, but a deliberate one. Our homes don’t exist apart from their communities, they’re part of them, and we wanted a simple, ongoing way to recognise the people who help make things better, week in and week out. The volunteers who show up on a wet Tuesday. The organisers who never quite get the thank you they deserve. The regulars who turn a group into a lifeline for somebody.

We also see it as something that works both ways. Every group we support brings something back into our homes too. Winners are invited to come and share what they do with our residents, whether that’s a performance, a workshop, or simply a cup of tea and a chat about their work. For residents, it’s a chance to meet new people, hear new stories, and feel connected to the wider world beyond the home. For the groups, it’s a chance to be seen, celebrated, and introduced to people who are often just as keen to get involved as they are to give something back. Some of our most memorable afternoons have come from exactly this kind of visit.

Get involved

We’re looking for all sorts of causes: toddler groups, choirs, lunch clubs, litter picks, befriending schemes, community gardens, sports teams, school projects, and anything else that’s making a genuine difference locally. You don’t need to be a registered charity, and you don’t need to be big. Some of the best applications come from the smallest groups, the ones doing brilliant work without ever asking for recognition.

Applying takes about ten minutes. Tell us who you are, what you do, and what £250 would mean for your group. We choose one cause each quarter per home, and we do our best to share the stories of everyone who applies on our social channels, because every act of kindness in our communities deserves to be celebrated, whether or not it’s the one we’re able to fund that time round.

Every story on this page started the same way: someone, somewhere, decided to make things a little kinder for the people around them. We’re proud that the Fisher Care Kindness Fund gets to play a small part in that, and prouder still of the groups who’ve let us be part of their story.

If reading this has made you think of a group that deserves a moment in the spotlight, whether it’s one you run, one you volunteer with, or simply one you admire from afar, we’d love to hear from them. Applications are open every quarter, and every single one is read.

Because kindness doesn’t stay in one place. It moves from a resident’s armchair to a church hall, a school garden, a Tuesday lunch club, and back again. We’re just glad to help it along the way.

Kindness lives here.
