Fisher Care Group celebrated the official opening of The Maltings Care Home in Sewerby last week, marking the family business’s expansion into East Yorkshire as it celebrates 40 years of caring for Yorkshire communities.
Charlie Dewhirst MP cut the ribbon on Friday 6 March at the £8 million, 59-bed luxury care home, which provides residential and dementia care in boutique surroundings featuring air-conditioned rooms, advanced Silver Shield care technology, and all-inclusive pricing unique to the Bridlington area.
“The Maltings represents everything our family believes care should be—treating people as individuals, with genuine kindness and dignity,” said Managing Director Josh Fisher, whose late father founded the business in 1986. “We’ve created a home that combines the latest care innovations with the warmth and personal attention that comes from being family-owned.”
The ceremony celebrated The Maltings’ partnership with the RNLI, the home’s nominated charity of the year. Bob Taylor from the RNLI gave an informative talk about the charity’s lifesaving work along the Yorkshire coast—a fitting connection for a care home situated near Bridlington’s beaches.
Guests were treated to a performance by Hooked on Harmony, with staff, local dignitaries, and community partners gathering to mark the opening.
Community celebration continued on Saturday
The celebrations continued on Saturday 7 March with a free family fun day featuring face painting, balloon modelling, birds of prey displays, furry animals, and tours of the new home.
The Maltings creates 100 jobs in the local area and introduces an innovative all-inclusive pricing model. A single weekly fee covers everything from care and accommodation to meals, activities, hairdressing, chiropody, and even wine with dinner—removing the worry of unexpected costs.
“We’ve built something genuinely special here,” said Care Home Manager Rob Hall, who brings 26 years of care experience to the role. “The Maltings sets new standards for what modern care can be—combining luxury surroundings with the personal touch and family values Fisher Care Group is known for.”
The facility was acquired as an abandoned shell building and completed with a full luxury fit-out. Fisher Care Group operates care homes in Whitby and Brighouse, including the 66-bed Bridge House and 51-bed Whitby Court.
The Maltings is offering a founding resident rate of £1,250 per week (fixed until April 2027) for the first ten residents—significantly below typical luxury care home rates in the region.
