Elf Day Celebrations at Whitby Court
If you walked into Whitby Court yesterday, you might have thought you’d taken a wrong turn and ended up in Santa’s Workshop!
This December, our fantastic team decided to “unleash their inner elf” to celebrate Elf Day, an annual event organized by the Alzheimer’s Society. It was a day filled with giggles, stripey socks, and a whole lot of festive spirit and all for a fantastic cause.
Festive Pampering and Giant Inflatables
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the costumes. Our staff went above and beyond, trading their usual uniforms for red and green tunics, pointed hats, and candy-cane tights. But the real showstopper? The giant inflatable elf suit that seemed to have a personality of its own!
As you can see from the photos, the inflatable elf was a massive hit with the residents, bringing out huge smiles and laughter as it bobbed around the lounge and visited rooms. It’s not every day you get a handshake or a hug from a 6-foot-tall balloon elf!
The festive fun didn’t stop the daily routine, though. Down in the salon, our “Elf Stylists” were hard at work. There is something truly heart-warming about seeing our care team ensuring residents look and feel their best, even while dressed head-to-toe in Christmas fancy dress.
Why We “Elf” Ourselves
While the costumes were fun, the reason behind them is serious. Elf Day is a vital campaign to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Dementia affects so many families across the UK, and as a care home, it is a cause very close to our hearts. By dressing up and acting a little silly, we hope to spark conversations and contribute to the funding of life-changing research and support services. Every penny raised helps the Alzheimer’s Society work toward a cure and support those living with dementia today.
A Huge Thank You
We want to say a massive thank you to our incredible staff for being such good sports and bringing so much joy to our residents. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the people we care for is the best Christmas gift we could ask for.
